BRADLEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL respects students’ rights to express themselves in the way they dress. All students are also expected to respect the school community by dressing appropriately for a Kindergarten-6th grade educational environment. Student attire should facilitate participation in learning, as well as the health and safety of students and the adults that supervise them. This policy is intended to provide guidance for students, staff, and parents/guardians.
All students shall be required to show proper attention to personal cleanliness, health, neatness, safety, and suitability of clothing and appearance for school activities.
Dress Code Guiding Principles:
- Student attire shall not cause a distraction from or disturbance in any school activity or interfere with the participation of a student in any school activity (including P.E.).
- Student attire shall not create a hazard to the safety of him/herself or others.
- Student attire shall not create a health hazard.
SPECIFIC DRESS CODE GUIDELINES:
- Clothing may not contain messages with any of the following:
Alcohol/drugs/tobacco/sexual message/violence/profanity/numbered items related to gangs.
- The following items are not allowed at school:

Clothes, jewelry, symbols, signs, emblems, etc. which are evidence of membership in or affiliation with a gang. (District Policy 4508.3.1)

Extremely long belts (any color), belts with initials (any letter/any color) chains (longer than 4 inches).

Any item which intimidates using fear of violence or may provoke others to acts of violence.

Shoes: For health and safety purposes, shoes appropriate for P.E. activities should be worn at all times. No flip-flops, high heels (1” or higher), open-toed sandals, platforms, or slippers.

Headwear may not be worn in assemblies, cafeteria, or library. (Teacher discretion in classrooms).
