WELCOME TO FIFTH GRADE!

Fifth grade instructional programs at Bradley School are committed to helping each child meet the academic and intellectual competencies expected at this grade level, and to becoming active, engaged learners in a classroom setting. The instructional programs in reading, writing, math, science, social studies, physical education, computers, and fine arts follow the California state standards, allowing students to practice and develop on a daily basis the necessary skills needed to successfully complete the year. Such skills include the ability to use prior knowledge, experience, and context to make predictions and draw conclusions in reading, to write for a variety of purposes compositions in the expository, narrative, and descriptive and persuasive  styles, and understand grade-appropriate mathematical concepts in order to show good mathematical reasoning while solving problems.

The fifth grade program builds on the skills and knowledge children have learned in preceding years. It encourages critical thinking, creativity, and respect for self and others. The manner of instruction - motivation, grouping, pacing, reinforcing, and reteaching - is determined by each teacher as he or she works to meet students' needs.
