DRESS and GROOMING GUIDELINES


 

Students are expected to dress appropriately and be properly groomed for elementary school. Student dress has an effect on behavior and attitude toward the learning environment.  Student dress or grooming may disrupt or distract from the educational program of the school. Any attire or grooming habit deemed inappropriate will be called to the attention of the parents for correction. 


 

DRESS  CODE GUIDELINES: 

 

The following items are not allowed at school:

  • Clothes, jewelry, symbols, signs, emblems, etc. which are evidence of membership in or affiliation with a gang. (District Policy 4508.3.1)

  • Clothing may not contain messages with any of the following: Alcohol/drugs/tobacco/sexual message/violence/profanity/numbered items related to gangs.

  • Extremely long belts (any color), belts with initials (any letter/any color) chains (longer than 4 inches).

  • Any item which intimidates by fear of violence or may provoke others to acts of violence.

  • Mid-riff, strapless, or revealing tops. (stomachs must not be showing) 

  • Underwear must not be showing. ( boxers, bra straps, etc.)

  • Pajamas of any kind. ( pajama pants, tops, etc) 

 

GUIDELINES  FOR SPECIFIC  ITEMS: 

 

  • Shoes: For health and safety purposes, shoes appropriate for PE activities should be worn at all times.  No flip-flops, high heels (1” or higher), open toed sandals, platforms, or slippers.

  • Headwear: may not be worn in assemblies, cafeteria, or library. (Teacher discretion in classrooms).

  • Pants: should be worn in the waist area and should not be sagging.

  • Earrings/jewelry: no dangling earrings/jewelry which may pose a danger or safety issue during PE activities.

 

Your style of clothing is to be individual and personal yet not distracting, disruptive, or unsafe. Violations of the dress guidelines will result in progressive disciplinary action.
