Weekly Update 011519

Did you know the the first ten minutes of school are some of the most important minutes of the day- The first ten are when students get to settle in, to do the little things that help them get comfortable, to say hi to their friends to their teachers, to get organized and adjusted. Coming into class late means that students miss out on this time and they have to figure out how to do all of these things while figuring out what the class is doing and catching up on anything they may have missed. This goes for all students, kinder through 6th grade. Every class has a morning routine that they use to get students settled and into working mode, when students miss this part of the day it has a detrimental effect on the rest of their day.

Ideally, it is best if students are here at least 10 minutes before the bell to go to class. This way they can get all their social interactions settled before class begins and use the first ten of class to get set up for academic success.

For the remainder of January and all of February the weekly updates will be focusing on getting your student to school on time or even a little early! Our motto for these next 6 weeks or so will be “The First Ten”.   A great start will be having your student here on time on January 15th- the first day of the second half of the year!
